It's been a strange transition but a welcome one at that. I get to work from home, deciding my own working hours. I get to take an actual lunch break--one without having to answer emails or grade as I try to inhale all my food, all in fifteen minutes.
I go between thinking this is a dream and wondering when it'll all be over to feeling an intense feeling of gratitude that this is my job now. To say it's been a shock would be an understatement. But I think I'm finally coming to terms that this is what a healthy work-life balance should look like for everyone and that this should be the minimum standard for everyone as well. I realize how much I need to unlearn from my old work (read: hustle) habits, particularly the value in slowing down and digesting the content I'm reading/learning and not just inhaling it all and moving onto the next item on the to-do list.
I'm not great at working at this slower pace, but it's been a reminder that I can learn, heal, and grown all at the same time and that it's healthy and okay to take a breath every now and then.
Here are some of my favorite work-from-home/home office products I've used thus far (some were purchased before this job and/or were used in my classroom, too!).
- Bluetooth speaker to listen to music
- Fans for when the afternoon sun gets hot.
- Prisms for my window
- Rainbow suncatcher window decal
- Yeti tumbler for keeping my water cool
- Monthly/weekly planner
- Standing mat -- best purchase everrrr
If you work from home, what would you add to the list?
