A WEEKEND AWAY.
This past weekend my family and I went on a last-minute roadtrip and went on what we call a walkation (we went to the coast last summer and the summer before), a vacation filled with walking/hiking and lots of good food. We should really call it a eat-cation because that's why we're walking and hiking, but I think the former sounds, well, a little bit healthier.
We explored the cities, hiked and escaped the heat in shady forests, drove in circles as we missed streets and exits, smelled pretty flowers, and ate some pretty epic donuts, too. It was a much-needed family vacation and a great chance to just enjoy the outdoors and eat some great food, too.
Because when it comes to vacations, eating is the best part.
p.s. I was definitely reminded why I much prefer taking photos in the morning and evening light--my goodness, afternoon heat is bright.

Walls covered with vines always beg to have their photo taken!
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I am a huge fan of vine-covered walls--especially when brick walls are involved. :)
DeleteA walk-eat-cation is my kind of trip - eating really is the best part of vacations. I get so excited when I'm planning them to pick out the place's we're going to try for local flavors... and then what else to do but walk and look at pretty things until you get hungry again?! Looks like you definitely did that - your photos are so lovely!
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly! I am a huge fan of just exploring and trying new places, especially when good food is involved. :)
Deletegorgeous photos!!! and what a fun vacation! i am going to have to tell my husband about walkcations :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Robyn! It was definitely a fun weekend trip and seeing as we've spent a few summers on walkations, I cannot recommend them enough. I hope you and your husband get a chance to go on one someday! :)
DeleteOh my goodness, Kiki your photography is amazing!! A walkation sounds like the perfect kind of vacation for me! I would love to spend the weekend in the great outdoors, exploring. But you're right--it's all about the eating too! I had wayy to much good food last weekend, when I went to visit family. I'm so glad you were able to have a fun, relaxing time last weekend too! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gina! Walkations are pretty much what I look forward to each summer. We like to pick cities that are close by and just explore the PNW and eating is definitely a huge part of it. :)
DeleteWhat fun!!!! :-) Getaways are the best! PS. Email me about the weekends you're free in August for our photoshoot! :-)
ReplyDeleteGetaways really are the best. There's something nice about getting away and just being a tourist for a little while. :)
DeleteSo fun! I wish you could take photos of me :)
ReplyDeleteSame! I would looooove to someday! :)
DeleteMmm, there is only a little peek of those donuts, but they look soooo good!!! This look like so much fun. I could use a walkation, or eatcation!
ReplyDeleteI tried getting a better photo but the store was packed and I couldn't quite snap another photo before we devoured them (they were that good, haha). :) And walkations are THE best way to travel, if you ask me. I could use another one!
DeleteA walkation! I have been taking those for ages but never knew what to call it until now. Love it. It's the best way to see and take in a new place... walk, observe, EAT ALL THE FOOD, walk it off!
ReplyDeleteAlso, 5th photo with the sun flare? Lovely!
Aren't they the best? My family started calling them that the first time we went on one and it's stuck ever since. :)
Deletethese are all so beautiful, but #1 + #5 are super amazing! I love the idea of "walkation" !
ReplyDeleteThanks! And walkations are my kind of vacation. I'm pretty sure your trips are pretty similar--I consider you a travel expert! :)
