Just like last year (and just as every other blogger is doing--just like this post!), I've chosen a word for the year. To be honest, I was unsure if I'd jump on this bandwagon again. I think, like resolutions, lots of people make these words but they're not necessarily words that are kept close to the heart--at least for me, that is.
But I want to be more intentional and so I'm going for it. I was half-praying half-thinking about the word for this year and it somehow just popped into my mind. I know it's never a coincidence when this happens. Rather, it's God-planned.
And as I'm sure you can tell, this year's word is full.
Yep, full.
I chose full for many reasons.
It's a reminder that I need to continue to live life to its fullest. That life is what I make it and that I need to make it full.
Because I really am full. I have enough and I am enough. And anything else that comes my way only makes my heart overflow. I am not empty, not barely at the brim. Nope, I am full.
As easy as it to write that, you should know that I have a tendency to think of all my want's in life. All the things that I want or don't have enough of. And all of that longing leaves me exhausted and disappointed; just plain yucky inside. So this year, I'm making an effort to change my "I want's" to "I have's." Whenever I get envious or greedy, I am going to try (emphasis on try) and turn my mind to think of all that I have and all the fullness around me.
Faith-wise, I'm going to try and draw closer to God. To try and embrace and understand His fullness. All that He is and all that He is to me. There are so many words that can describe God and I want to try and discover all of those words and tie them to my walk with Him.
Lastly, I want to be full with my relationships. It sounds weird, but I want to try and fully devote my time and listening ears to my loved ones. I want to be fully present in my life and while I have no idea what this looks like, having this goal is a starting point.
So here's to being full this year--in more ways than one.
Do you have a word for the year? If so, what is it?
And in case you're curious here are my runner up's for this year: savor. celebrate. hope. enjoy. wait. trust.
Great word!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It has a lot of meaning behind it for me so I'm excited to see where it brings me. :)
DeleteFull was a great choice...it applies to so many areas of life! God led you to a great word for 2014!
ReplyDeleteI haven't officially chosen a word for the year...but thinking about it now I think I would have to go with trust. That's definitely something I have been trying to value lately!
That's one of the biggest reasons why I chose it--because it really does hold a lot of meanings for me. I know for a fact that God put it on my heart for a reason (and no, I'm really not trying to sound too cliche). :)
DeleteAnd with trust as a runner up for me, I know that it's a good one to have. It's something I'm always learning to do and put into practice!
love this idea so much! :) that's a great word & i love all of your reasonings! i need to focus on what i have rather than what i want too! it's so easy to fall into the trap of focusing on what we don't have instead of appreciating what we do have. thanks for the challenge!
ReplyDeleteI've been exactly the same way as of late! It's crazy how I somehow fall into this trap of looking on the negative side or looking at what I don't have instead of all that I do. So glad we can be in this challenge together!
DeleteAnd you'll have to have a word for the year, too--let me know if you do! :)
Kiki! I love your word! and I totally get the "hard to hold it close to your heart" thing! I had words for last year but it was hard to remember to focus on it all year. this year I am dedicating a journal ONLY to my word (not my quiet times or anything else) and then i can SEE the progress. look at the moments. and reflect on how the Lord is working! maybe you can do that with me so that we don't lose sight of our words!
ReplyDeleteGlad you can relate--I sometimes feel like I write and come up with all these goals and then just let them slide as the year goes one. I loooove your idea, though. As a journaler/writer/documenter, it sounds like the perfect idea for me and I think I'll just have to adopt it. I haven't yet had a chance to read your word for the year (it's one of my many tabs left of posts I need to read tonight!!), but I know it's got to be a good one.
DeleteThanks for passing on the journaling idea, I'm excited to join in and do it with you! :)
this right here "...And anything else that comes my way only makes my heart overflow..."
ReplyDeleteamen and amen. to live a life where your heart is already full and the rest is overflow - WOW...truly inspirational kiki!
<3
what a great word!
i'm posting about my "resolutions" tomorrow...i'm too scatterbrained to have just one word haha but i LOVE the idea. i'll probably do a "word" myself to keep in eyesight at home.
That is one life that I'm striving to do--so don't think of it as too inspirational yet, haha. That was one of those sentences that God put on my heart New Year's Eve and I knew that He put it there for a reason. I'm really trying to do that everyday every moment every second and it's proving to be a good challenge (as opposed to just a challenge). I'm thinking I need to print that out and hang it up in my room or something--either that, or tattoo it on my forehead! :)
DeleteAnd I'm excited to read your resolutions! I love reading them for some reason and am excited to be inspired by yours.
Full, a great word for 2014 if you ask me. I guess that would be my word too, but I haven't really taken the time to think about it yet. And your runner ups are great too.
ReplyDeleteI think it's great that you want to changes from 'wanting' to 'having'. People forget they have so much already.
Hopeyou succeed this year in keeping 'full' close to you, in every way you intend to :)
xxSusanne
Full is a great word and I'm glad you can relate to and understand the meanings behind it. I have such a tendency to fall back on the wanting/whining instead of counting my blessings and I'm hoping to kick that bad habit and pick up the latter of the two.
DeleteThanks for the good luck wish! I definitely will need it. :)
LOVE your word for the year! thank you for the encouragement!!!! :) may this year be one full of God's grace and kindness for you, kiki!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Helen! I'm always so touched to see you on my blog because I adore yours and your ability to capture life and joy so honestly and realistically (and faith-filled, too!).
DeleteHappy New Year to you as well, friend! :)
Amen to that sister! thanks for that :)
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that you mention trust: My word is definitely trust. Trust as i start this new adventure that is Grad school, trust as i move to new place and remember that this is where God wants me to be.
Trust was one of my top runner-ups (is that even a thing?) so I'm glad you're using it this time around. It's a great one and trusting brings so many amazing rewards so I'm excited to see what happens as a result of your trust in God this year! :)
DeleteLove this. I love reading everyone's words!!
ReplyDeleteSame here! I've loved seeing what words people choose and the stories behind them, too. And then I start to thinking why I didn't think of their words, too! :)
Deleteyes yes yes!! i love this word. and it fits you...does that make sense? i am so excited about your 2014 and all that's to come for you!
ReplyDeleteThat totally makes sense! I actually think that's a huge compliment and it'll really give me a boost in terms of remembering and living it out.
DeleteAnd yes, I'm sooo pumped for 2014. Cheers to a New Year!!!
p.s. I found your phrase to fit you perfectly as well. :)
LOVE this! Yes, yes, yes! What a life it shall be when we all live it to its fullest!!
ReplyDeleteI gave you TWO shout-outs on my post today :) You are a constant inspiration with your blog and your personality and self-givingness (is that even a word? it is now!) Thank you for being you!
Exactly! And the pastor at my church only reaffirmed my word for the year--he spoke about being full and grateful with what we have and I know for a fact it was God reminding me of my word. :)
DeleteAnd I can't wait to read that post! I love your heart as well and your joy-filled love and am so grateful we have met and are blog friends now. :)
Wow... Full.... What a wonderful, deep, meaningful word! I hope 2014 is your best year yet!
ReplyDeleteI guess it is, isn't it? It seemed like a really silly word but I wanted something meaningful and original and also something that I could remember and look back on months from now. I'm excited for all that this year brings for the both of us! :)
Deleteoh man. full is SUCH a good word. I never would have thought of it-- but it's just so great-- pursuing others and God fully- living life to the fullest-- there's so much in there.
ReplyDeletealso, i totally appreciated your blatant link to this post :)
I know, right? I wish I could take credit for coming up with it, but I most definitely did not. And I'm going to risk sounding cliche, but it really was God who put this word on my heart. :)
DeleteAnd it's actually been quite the struggle for me--but it's a good struggle because when I feel full, I'm reminded of why this is my word for the year.
And haha thanks for following that lame link/shameless self-promotion. I promise to try and restrain myself from doing it again! :)
