CURRENTLY | JANUARY.

currently
...finished reading Divergent by Veronica Roth. I was a little unsure about this book (seeing as it came after The Hunger Games--and y'all know my love for Katniss and original storylines), but it's turned out to be a pretty good read. Have you read this series before?

...dwelling over this verse in Habakkuk.

...in need of a new pair of headphones. Both of mine have seen better days and it's getting a little old to have to twist and turn the jack to get sound in both ears.

...excited about 2014 and all of the blessings, adventures, and challenges it has to offer.

...eating homemade sourdough bread. My sister makes THE best artisan sourdough bread (from her own starter, too!) and it's mouth-wateringly good. Like really good.

...waiting for TV to come back. If this is a sign of how lame I am, then so be it. I know that they're all back and running, but I just kind of wish they were on every single day. I guess I need to practice patience?

...feeling cozy. Is that even a feeling? Well, it is if you ask me. I have a huge craving to curl up under a huge blanket on my favorite end of the sofa and read, write, and listen to Pandora.

...reading Cold Tangerines by Shauna Niequist. Shauna's one of my favorite authors (and yes, I will refer to her like my next door neighbor) and after finishing Bittersweet, I knew I had to read her other books.

...loving Mary Beth's blog. Each post is written so beautifully; I find myself falling in love with her writing with each post she writes--this one being one of my all time faves.

...watching Parenthood. Need I say more?

...photographing everything. I got myself the lovely Canon 60D for Christmas and couldn't be more excited to see where/what/who I'll photograph this year. It's a much heavier camera than my old Rebel XS, but it's a good heavy and I'm ready to take on this year with a new buddy to document each moment with.

...thinking about getting older. January is my birthday month (hip, hip, hooray!). One of my favorite parts about having a January birthday is the newness that comes with the New Year. I'm actually a little excited to turn one year older this time around and it's a good--albeit strange--feeling.

So tell me, what are you up to currently?

    1. Same! I haven't read the others yet, but once I started reading Divergent, I just couldn't put it down. It was a great quick read and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes next! And as for the ending, I've heard good reviews and bad. I'm excited to see for myself, though! :)

    1. Same here! Definitely one of the best (and most expensive) purchases I've made. I got mine used and without the lens (I use my 50mm still) but I love all that it has to offer and all that I still have yet to learn. :)

no - you are NOT lame because i'm anticipating the return of my tv shows, too!

    1. I've heard good and bad reviews about the end of the series, too! But I'm excited to see what happens in Insurgent and Allegiant as well. I'm also excited to see how they make them into movies, too. :)

And I haven't read too much of Cold Tangerines yet, but I honestly don't think the order matters. Shauna is a brilliant writer so I'm excited to see how you like them!

Taking photos of everything is pretty much the story of my life. I feel like I'm an official blogger now, haha. :)

And hooray for being FB friends, too! I thought I'd make it official after reading your blog post. :)

  6. I'm on the wait list for Divergent at the library. I saw a list of 16 books that are being made into movies this year and decided to read them all. Divergent is one of those books.

    1. Ooh, that's a good idea! I'm going to have to find that list! I love seeing how directors/producers interpret books and make them into movies, but I'm definitely one of those have-to-read-the-book-first-before-the-movie kind of girl. :) You'll have to let me know how you like Divergent!

  7. I wish I could be photographing everything! I don't have a good camera so I pretend I can do it with my eyes, weird? And, homemade bread is the best!

    1. Um, nope, that's not weird at all! There are so many times when I'm out and about and regret not lugging the old camera around with me. I, too, also pretend to take snapshots with my eyes and then I also try and mentally take notes for future potential photoshoots, too. :)

  8. Divergent is on my list of things to read this year as well. And going off what Amber said, pretty much everyone I know that has read the trilogy didn't like the ending. So...yeah. haha

I haven't read Cold Tangerines, but it keeps popping up everywhere I go! Might have to add it to the list??

Parenthood = YES! You know I will always be a fan of that. :)

Awesome new camera and YAY for birthday month!! Woohoo!

    1. Yeah, I've heard that a lot of people don't like the ending either but right now, I have no idea what that means. It actually makes me want to read them now and see how I like it for myself. :)

And you should definitely add Cold Tangerines to your list! I've seen it everywhere, too, and since I loved Shauna's other book (Bittersweet) I figured I had to read this one for myself. Have you read any of Shauna's books before? They're (or Bittersweet, at least) is written almost like a blog, with each chapter like a different blog post. I looove it. :)

And Parenthood is amazing. Although, I'm kind of secretly hoping Joel gets with the program soon. Oh, drama... :)

    1. Yes, you will! I got my mom and sister to read Divergent after I finished it and now we're all waiting to get our hands on Insurgent (the second book in the series). :)

And you'll have to finish it! I forgot that you were in South Africa--that's too bad you lost it there! I cannot wait to read it all and Shauna's other book, too. :)

    1. YES, you do! It really is a great quick read and it was the perfect book for my young adult fiction loving self. And yes, you should also read it before the movie. Reading the books before the watching the movies is a must in my book (no pun intended). :)

Also, homemade sourdough is the best. THE BEST.

    1. Same! You've got to watch that show prepared with kleenex and ugly tears, right? Normally I'm not a big drama girl, but I looove the Bravermans and honestly feel like I'm a part of their family. :)

    1. Hi Megan! Nice to meet you! :) Thanks for the sweet words about my blog--it took awhile for it to get to this place and I'm glad you like it!

And you should definitely read Divergent, it's a great quick read and while I can't say the same about the other two in the series (still haven't read it), it is definitely a good one. :)

      Thanks for stopping by!

  18. First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MONTH! :) You are truly a gift to us ladies and I hope this new year for you is filled with more adventures, more photography, and of course, more of God's grace.

Second of all, (I have so many things to say to this post...)

I'm reading Cold Tangerines, too! Shauna is an absolute GEM. I love her. I found her through one of her sermons for Willow Creek (which you have to give it a listen if you haven't) and discovered her books. I think you'll also really enjoy "Restless" by Jennie Allen(sp?) Please check it out! Better yet—email me your addy and I'll send it over to you as a bday gift!

Third, I started watching Parenthood. It's a little slow, actually, but I'm going to trust your judgement and keep pushing through. I just love Lorelai.

<3 I'm sorry for how excited I was about this post.

    1. Aw, thank you Jennifer! You are so incredibly sweet and those are the exact birthday wishes I am hoping come true this year. :)

I also agree with you on Shauna's writing. Shauna is truly amazing and she is such an incredible writer and inspiration for me creatively and well, in every aspect, really! I haven't had a chance to dive too deeply into Cold Tangerines but I absolutely loved Bittersweet and I think you would, too.

And I haven't actually heard of Restless before but I'll have to look it up! You are wayyyy too sweet to offer to send it my way--like seriously. Way too sweet. :) I will most definitely add it to my to-read list, though!

I'm glad you're going to give Parenthood a go! It's definitely slow and dramatic, but I think the more you watch, the more you'll fall in love with the Braverman family. Let me know how it goes for you, okay? And as for Lauren Graham, yep, you never can go wrong with her! Another blog friend actually told me she wrote a book, did you know that?

p.s. Never apologize for excitement in comments--it's contagious and I looove it!
