But when I heard this song on a commercial not too long ago, I knew that I had to figure out where it came from and who sings it. If anything, it just shows that I'm not up to date on my American Idol. I do, however know what judges are and are not on the show this season. So one point for me.
As a word-girl, I have a tendency to cling to and place a lot of significance on the words I hear in music. They may or may not be songs sung by Christians or words meant for Christian radio, but sometimes their messages are God-like nonetheless.
Hold on to me as we go. As we roll down this unfamiliar road.
Don't pay no mind to the demons, they fill you with fear.
The trouble it might drag you down, but if you get lost you could always be found.
Just know you're not alone.
I'm gonna make this place your home.
Hearing those words have brought a lot of comfort to me lately. Comfort that God, that family, and that friends are there with me on this unfamiliar road of mine. I may not know what direction I'm headed in, but I do know that I have someone with me every step of the way. God is behind me, in front of me, and beside me 24/7.
Phillip Phillip's song also reminds me that everyone has fears and that it's my choice to either listen to my fears or place them in God's hands instead. It's also a reminder that no matter where I am and what I do, God is with me. I'm not alone. And He makes every place--scary or familiar--a home and a refuge.
"Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done." Philippians 4:6
p.s. It doesn't hurt to have someone cute sing songs like these either. Just saying.

Love this post :) Probably because everything you wrote has gone through my mind plentyyy of times recently. We are so fortunate to know that no matter WHAT happens, we have a God who is in control, and has our best interest at heart. What could be more comforting than that??
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a great day, dear!
Yes! Knowing that God is in control and makes the best plans for us is definitely a huge relief and a great comfort.
DeleteThank you for stopping by! I am so glad to have met you in this wonderful blogosphere. :)
Oh my goodness, I am the same way! and I did the exact same thing with this song...weird. I am obsessed with Phillip Phillips.
ReplyDeleteYes! I am bit obsessed with him now, too. I love that we have so many similarities!
DeleteSo great!! I thought the same thing with this song. I've been having a lot of anxiety lately about things I can't control. This song spoke to me, as well as a new Chris Tomlin song I heard called Whom Shall I Fear. I am normally not into Chris Tomlin, I find his songs semi-cheesy, but I loved this one. Spoke straight to my soul. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy, I feel the same way about Chris Tomlin's song! Some of his songs speak to me more than others and I really connected with Whom Shall I Fear. I love it when I come across songs like that.
Deleteokay, i'm going through your old music posts now since looking at today's post. I LOVE PHILLIP PHILLIPS! i actually did watch his season on american idol and fell in love a little. and i am not lying when i say this song makes me teary eyed...like every time. plus, my best friend used it as her recessional at her wedding. so many good memory associations with this song! :) a friend and i went to his concert in nashville this spring...it was great.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE HIM, TOO! I'll admit that I don't really watch American Idol, but I'm in love with some of the great singers they've created in the music world--especially him.
DeleteAnd what a great idea to use his music in a wedding! I love it and am just a little jealous you went to his concert last spring. I bet it was great! :)
